INTERIOR
The interior presents in excellent order from top to bottom. Standard equipment includes a Mercedes-Benz audio system, climate control, cruise control, and heated front seats. Distinguishing ‘Silver Arrow’ specification includes two-tone silver and anthracite Nappa leather trim throughout, wood trim in Bird’s-eye maple black, structured aluminum gearshift gate and instrument cluster, SL pedal design, Illuminated door sills and Silver Arrow badging to the seats and centre console.

EXTERIOR
The metallic silver paint (code 777) really needs to be seen to be fully appreciated, it’s just stunning. Complemented with AMG body styling and 18 inch unique multi-piece alloy wheels, the imposing road presence and visual appeal really is quite something. Finishing details include Silver Arrow badging on front wings, silver brake calipers and chrome-sheen aluminum trim and chrome radiator grille.

MECHANICS
The impeccably well refined, 4999cc 320bhp V8 provides ample power for effortless cruising, and when pushed can get this Silver Arrow to 60mph in 6.3 seconds. With power delivered through the five-speed automatic transmission, progress is always nothing less than supremely smooth. With only 23,000 miles, confirmed by the MOT history and a Mercedes-Benz main dealer service history, this is a useable modern classic ready to be driven.

MERCEDES-BENZ R129 SL CLASS MODEL HISTORY
Launched at the 1989 Geneva Motorshow, designed by Bruno Sacco the Mercedes-Benz R129 SL roadster replaced the R107. It typified the early 90s 2-seater touring sports car trend with its long bonnet and short rear end. Hugely successful, it remained in production until 2002 when it was replaced with the R230.

With an electro-hydraulic automated fabric convertible roof and detachable hard top, it was initially available with 2 six-cylinder engines and a 5.0 litre V8 delivering power through a 5-speed manual, or 4 and 5-speed automatic transmissions. The numerous standard features included innovative electronically controlled damping and a hidden, automatically extending roll-over bar. It was also the first passenger car to have seat belts integrated into the seats rather than anchoring to the floor, B-pillar, and transmission tunnel.

Throughout its production run many aesthetic and mechanical improvements were developed and integrated. More powerful engines were introduced too, culminating in the barn-storming SL 73 AMG from 1997 producing over 500bhp and capable of taking the SL to 60mph in 4.5 seconds. A number of limited editions were produced, including the ‘Mille Miglia’ in very limited numbers, the ‘Designo Black Diamond’ edition for the north American market, and the Sir Stirling Moss authenticated ‘Silver Arrow’ as the final run-out edition marking the end of R129 production.
