MODEL HISTORY & PRODUCTION
Launched at the 1965 London Motorshow, a total of 1,788 DB6s were manufactured throughout its 5 year production run at Newport Pagnell. There were clear design cues from the outgoing DB5, but a major change was the abandonment of the full superleggera construction technique patented by coachbuilders/stylist Touring of Milan. The DB6 used a more familiar body-on platform due to the longer rear end requiring a more rigid, stronger design.

Other more visual changes included a longer wheelbase, higher roof line providing more headroom for passnegers, quarter bumpers at each corner, front door quarter windows, oil cooler air scoop and Kammback tail rear end styling.

Performance was as you’d expect - impressive. The DB6 is powered by a 3,995 cc twin-overhead cam straight-six with triple SU carbutettors producing 282 bhp (210 kW; 286 PS) at 5,500 rpm. The Vantage engine option was quoted at 325 bhp (242 kW; 330 PS) with a top speed of 145 mph.

Complimenting this performance was a more stable ride at high speed than the DB5 offered, an increased luggage capacity and more creature comforts in the cabin including power steering and air conditioning.

For many enthusiasts, the DB6 is regarded as the last ‘proper’ Aston Martin. Altough its intended replacement, the DBS was introduced in 1967, the DB6 production continued until 1970.
